With the rise of influencers living lavish lifestyles and building careers off of sharing them on every social media platform, it may seem like artists have lost their status. (I mean, Kim K. just landed a role on AHS. How? Why?)
Also, kids these days might not realize it, but there was a time when the "Starving Artist" was legitimately romanticized and celebrated. One could argue that this attitude still persists in some industries, such as the film industry, where there is often disdain for Marvel and commercially successful franchise films, as well as the actors who make those films and artistic choices.
For years, I too wanted to be an "Indie Darling" (and at least be nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress). I didn't think about living a functional and fulfilling life as a human being. To have/be that, inevitably, it means that my relationship with money needs to be functional.
Unfortunately, when you grow up in a cult and then spend a large portion of your youth studying acting and trying to figure out your way into an industry where you almost never have any control or financial power, you don't really learn basic skills like how to be financially healthy. Maybe some of you in other industries can relate; I know that I'm not alone here.
So now, as an adult who is truly trying to adult successfully, I spend a lot of time reading and listening to podcasts trying to learn how to have a healthy relationship with money. And why this is my first official post for paid subscribers only. (Thank you to my many paid subscribers!)
Below are a few of my favorite podcast episodes that that have had a deep impact on me and understanding of money/wealth.
Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions leave them in the comments!
